They believe that the blood type can reveal a lot about a person’s character and even though this may not be scientifically proven, studies have revealed that your blood type holds information about the health conditions and diseases you may be prone to.

Memory

The University of Vermont revealed that people whit blood type AB have an 82% higher risk of suffering from memory and cognitive problems which may grow into dementia. The lead author of the study, Dr. Cushman says that vascular problems can be the reason behind memory issues.

Heart problems

It seems that your blood type can also reveal the risk of heart problems including stroke, heart attack and thrombosis. According to the findings of a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health people with A, B or AB blood types are at a 60% higher risk of blood clots and coronary heart disease. But it should be noted that as with anything else, following an appropriate treatment and a healthy lifestyle can change the odds to our favor and help you lower that risk.

Gastrointestinal problems

People who have a blood type A are more prone to gastric cancer while people who have the blood type O have a higher risk of developing peptic ulcers. According to Gustaf Edgren, an associate epidemiology professor at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, different blood type groups are susceptible to different bacterial infections. These two blood types are also at a higher risk of developing Helicobacter pylori. But the professor also stresses that the most important thing is to quit smoking and lower the alcohol consumption and this plays a more important role than your blood type.

Cancer

People with blood type O have been revealed to have a lower risk of developing certain types of cancer, like stomach, pancreatic and colorectal cancer.

Diabetes

According to a study from 2015 that involved 82.000 subjects revealed that people with blood type B and A were more likely to suffer from diabetes.

Malaria

It seems that people with blood type O are at an advantage once again, as they have a significantly lower risk of catching malaria and some of the worst types of it as well. This probably due to the fact that the protein mosquitos secret, binds better with blood type A than O.

Vegetarian or protein-based diets

When it comes to eating according to your blood type, there’s a heated debate over the scientific basis for this eating regimens. Some health experts claim that people with different blood types process the food they consume differently, while others say that the theory is not scientifically based. If you’d like to give it a shot, people with type O are supposed to be better at digesting meat, while type A should follow a vegetarian diet.
