7 Signs You Aren’t Drinking Enough Water

There’s nothing more refreshing than a glass of cold water after a workout – if you ask us, it’s definitely one of the best feelings ever. When we’re thirsty, water tastes better than anything else. However, sometimes it’s just so plain and unappealing. Due to this, most of us just don’t drink enough water, which may lead to dehydration and even more serious problems.

Dehydration is never a simple issue – it can impair the function of your organs and create a bigger set of problems. This is why it’s important to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated if you want to keep your health in check. With that being said, here’s how to recognize you’re not drinking enough water:

Dry skin

Dry skin is one of the major symptoms of dehydration. Our skin is the largest organ in the body and needs to be hydrated at all times. Sweat is actually the body’s way of cooling down and washing the dirt and oil that accumulates in the pores. Whenever you notice that your skin is suddenly dry, make sure to start drinking more water than the usual.

Dry eyes

Dry eyes are another big symptom of dehydration. The lack of water in the body can make your eyes dry and bloodshot due to the dryness in the tear ducts. This can be especially unpleasant for those who wear contact lenses, so make sure to drink plenty of water every day.

Dry mouth
If you see that your mouth is dry, it’s obvious that your body needs water. Water is important for the mucous membranes in the mouth and will keep the saliva going after a single sip.

Joint pain

Sometimes, joint pain can be caused by dehydration rather than another cause. The bones and joints need water to stay lubricated and healthy, so when they lack it, they will grind on each other and cause you unbearable pain.

Premature aging

As we get older, the amount of water in our body seems to go down. This means that you’ll need to drink even more water as you age in order for everything in the body to work.

Reduced muscle mass

Our muscles consist of a big amount of water, so when you drink less of it, you’ll definitely have reduced muscle mass. Water keeps us hydrated during a workout and reduces inflammation as well, which is why you need to drink more of it.

Slow recovery from illnesses

If you’re down with the flu and it seems like it’s going on forever, your body needs water. Water keeps toxins out of the body and the kidneys and liver functioning properly, so you need to start drinking more in order to keep your organs in check and help the body fight ailments.
